Feeling Stuck?!

Feeling Stuck?!

Summer break is over, and I hope you had a great and inspirational one, just like me!
And now?
Back to work and back to normal – I wished!

But: I feel stuck!

Yes, my label CUBELIN is all about inspiration. But honestly, right now, I have no idea in which direction to go further.

In my head I have tons of ideas I would love to elaborate and I try to work them out. But I can´t see the connection and how I can relate them with my business.

I always hear those judging questions in my head:

„Gabi, why are you starting to weave now? This doesn´t make any sense!“
„How on earth will you earn money with painting a chair – and are you particularly allowed to do that ?
„May I use acrylics on textiles, or will something terrible happen if I do so?

And though I keep telling myself YES, YES, YOU ARE ALLOWED!….I feel like constantly breaking the rules and this is really exhausting.

So how can I deal with that?

I was lucky to find some great advice by a rock musician you still might know from that wonderful 80s band, The Eurythmics: Dave Stewart.
He is offering it in the free App „Creativity lite“, and it´s actually an excerpt from his book „Business Playground“.
If you feel anything like me, stuck and not seeing the point in doing what you´re doing, it´s really worthwile listening to it.

Here´s the link to the app (it might only work on an Ipad!):

Creativity Lite

Just listening to those short stories was so helpful for me to feel better about what I am doing now. (Even if I still don´t  know, where this is leading me to.)

And I keep on experimenting!

I´m also still looking for the best and most useful way of sharing ideas and inspirations with you.
Writing these letters means a lot to me, as they feel like an important part of my journey.
Thank you for being with me and I will keep in touch!

Lots of love!

Gabi

So this overwhelmed me – such a sweet idea! And such a talent of artist Wendy Tsao from Vancouver to bring the doodled sketches and painted pictures of children into real life. If you´re searching for a lifetime gift: this would be it!

Today I would like to introduce you to the colourful work of Claudia Levin – firstly a wonderful and lovely woman I just met recently and secondly a very inspiring visual artist.  I am totally impressed by her warm and charismatic pictures, and the way she develops them.

„Flaming City“ by Claudia Levin

Claudia has master´s degrees in fine art and music, she comes from Brazil and currently lives in Berlin. She deconstructs photographs and displays them on huge panels in glass or acrylic.

She has a great eye for finding the extraordinary and transforms it to open up new perspectives.

As Claudia puts it:

„Sometimes it is trash on the floor that I photograph, and through modern tools, I can present another story.“

The Dot – Point of View

The Dot – Point of View

The Dot – Point of View

What really drives me as a human being is trying to see the so called outside world from different views and angles.

That´ s why I love to watch perspective changing movies and I am fascinated by art, which is able to do that.

Yes, you might now suggest some drugs for help, but no, thank you ;)

I think our world is so outstandingly amazing, there´s no need for that.

As we all know, everyone perceives the world around us in a personal subjective way.

And some of us really have a whacky experience with it.

Like Yayoi Kusama.

This woman is obsessed with dots. Today she is one of the most important japanese artists and internationally known for her exquisite net and dot paintings as well as her sculpture and performance work.

„Accumulation“1963 P: Tom Powell

But how on earth is someone doomed to paint dots over and over again? This background story is what fascinates me about Kusama:

Since she was a young girl she has had hallucinations. They started for example while she was eating her breakfast. She stared at the tablecloth and got lost in its pattern. When she looked up to the ceiling, she saw the same pattern, it appeared at the walls, she saw it on her body and finally in the entire space around her. As she described it, she felt like dissolving herself completely in the pattern until nothing of her remained.

Those hallucinations accompanied her throughout her whole life.

Kusama had to struggle a lot to be accepted by her family. Her parents followed her wish and sent her to New York in 1955 – but only under the premise of never coming back to Japan.

In the recent years some of the big names in fashion business collaborated with her like Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. And I just love the picture of George Clooney for W-Magazine, completely wrapped up in dots and thinking…?

P: Emma Summerton

Today Kusama is 86 years old and she is voluntarily living in a mental hospital in Japan and she still does what she loves doing most: painting dots.

This last picture of her work below is about infinity and was part of an exhibiton at the Tate Modern 2012.

Art Outing

Art Outing

I love those kind of actions!! Why keep all the beauty of our master art pieces locked inside the museums? Julien de Casabianca, french artist, filmmaker and visual artist thought of a way to integrate art in our every-day-life. He initiated the Outings Project which happens all over the world!

Thats the thing: Everybody in their own town can go to their museum, take pictures of portraits (best is an anonymous one) with their phone and set them free! You take the picture – print it out and stick it to the wall in the street with some wallpaper glue. It might feel a bit revolutionary, but it is still on the legal side – because it´s art :)
